Going the long hall

I just got back from my pharmacy, It took over an hour to get my meds a flu shot. I have never seen it so busy. While I was in line, I kept trying my best to stay calm and be patient. It was hard real hard. I just wanted to scream!!! People tell me that I am patient, but little do they know I have a short fuse.

You have to be ready to be patient in Self-Determination and go the long hall. DDS selected me in their SD lotto on October 1, 2018 and I had to wait a full year for my plan to become active. For me, a year is a long time. It is important to remember that you are still dealing with the system in SD and not the free market, so things move slower, sometimes painfully slower.

But it is my experience these waits are bumps in the road and well worth it. SD has been far and away the best thing that has ever happened to me as a service recipient. I am receiving services now that I didn’t even dream of. Similarly I have grown personally in ways I couldn’t have hoped for. Plus I am happier now. But I did have to give up thinking about the short term and the immediate and think of the long term and the big picture.
