Pride and humility are both very human emotions and essential for our mental well-being. They give balance to our personality. Those of us born with developmental disabilities may only experienced criticism growing up. We couldn’t do anything right or we the cause of all the problems. Negative tapes play in our head pulling us down. As we grow up and become adults, it is important to keep track of our accomplishments, achievements, and successes. This builds are self-esteem and feelings of pride. Likewise, humility helps us keep our view of ourselves in perspective, not to think too highly of ourselves, and to be grateful for all good things that have come our way. Balance helps keep us mentally healthy and relate to our family, friends, co-workers, and peers.
