Seizing the Passion

I was so full of enthusiasm for Self-Determination when I went through my informational presentation. I will be honest the orientation meeting was so long and boring, I slept through most of it. The presenters meant well, but the topic matter was terribly dry. My enthusiasm for Self-Determination returned at my PCP meeting. I felt great being surrounded by friends who cared for me. What stands out most from the PCP meeting is my friends talked about my strengths. I don’t usually think about having strengths, so it was a real eye-opening conversation for me.

My certification of my budget, approval of my spending plan, and my IPP happened simultaneously. I don’t know if others have had that experience, but we had a party at it. I was so happy with what I achieved. The passion continued after enrollment as I gradually moved away from traditional services and to services tailored to my unique needs.

I was especially proud when I decided I had out grown ILS services because that was a huge accomplishment. I had not planned for it, but it happened anyway. There were a number of benefits of ending my ILS services. It freed up monies that could be used elsewhere. More importantly it freed up my evenings so I could do other things. It is my experience time is more important than money.

All along the time I have been is SD, I called IPP meetings to make addendums as needed. I am very satisfied with my current IPP and at my upcoming annual review, I don’t expect any big changes. My passion continues and confidence that my SD plan will continual to work for me.
