“The Sound of Silence” is a beautiful song, but we, self-advocates, must speak up clearly and distinctly voicing our needs, concerns, and hopes and dreams. My SC certified my individual budget and wrote my IPP. Now my FMS is writing up my spending plan. We are emailing each other to clarify how I want my budget spent, as tiny as it is. Fortunately, I have some personal funds to supplement my SDP. I could never afford my technology expenses with my SDP budget. Let’s face it, technology means a lot to me. I may not have professional skills in it, but I have good amateur skills, and I am happy with that. Another example of Self-Advocacy is when I get stuck on a computer problem, I call tech support and calmly, communicate my problem. I feel no shame calling tech support.
