I am not sure if working is classified as a fundamental need, but it should be. Work provides a person with so much–income, benefits, opportunities, social contacts, and much more. People with disabilities can have great difficulty finding and keeping a good job. I know it took me 20 years after graduating from school to find a good job. I got by working part-time and receiving SSI. I have worked for my present employer also 20 years. They have been very supportive of me. I feel that I have finally come into my own at work the last three years. I support Self-Advocacy in the San Diego and Imperial communities. I do a lot of writing and Zoom meetings, and recently have started web authoring support. I was told when I was looking for work, looking was harder than being on the job. That was true for me. It was such a tremendous relief to end the job hunting. I took my job to be a life long commitment, but these days people switch jobs quite frequently, so it is important to keep your job networks and your resume current. I wish I could say that finding work was easy, but it is hard for people with disabilities Of course you already know that.
