Diversity, dignity, and respect are three of the most important words to the Self-Advocacy Movement. No two people have the exact same condition and how it affects them differs from person to person. The severity of the condition has no bearing on the worth of that person and their right to be treated with dignity and respect. A condition may limit what we can do but has no effect on our personhood. The community of people with disabilities must be inclusive to all people with disabilities and not rank people based on their abilities. That may only be natural but it would also be hypocritical. We must remember we are bound together by interconnectedness and in our unity, there is strength, direction, and purpose. Just as there is a diversity of ability, there is a wide range of dreams and preferences. No two people are alike. It just comes down to dignity and respect.
