What is at the core of Self-Advocacy for people with developmental disabilities? I don’t think it is anger or any other negative emotion, but there is the desire to get high-quality goods and services tailored to the individual or family. It could be fraternity and solidarity of like-minded individuals committed to us living to our full potential in integrated and inclusive communities of our choice. Not only that, but it might simply be the hope that if we try really hard, things will get better. Hope is a great human motivator. With it, anything is possible, but without it, everything is impossible. I will stick with hope.
