Broaden our perspective

I am tempted when I speak up to talk about what is on my Spending Plan or Individual Program Plan. I must push myself to talk beyond those things. As well written as my IPP is, there is more to me than what is written on the document, and I shouldn’t confine myself by paper. I have my relationships, career, and interests. I need to talk about all that. I must think beyond myself and think and speak on behalf of others–family, friends, peers, and colleagues. When I get to this point I start seeing and talking about systemic issues and social justice. It might not be clear to you but one issue that I am taking increased interest is climate change. I am unhappy with the climate changes that I have witnessed during my life, and I don’t want the climate to get out of control. The environment has suffered so much, and I feel we have a responsibility to care for and be good stewards of it. It is not something to be exploited and consumed. There are other issues I am interested in, but I think I will stop here. We need to expand our minds and see the big picture.
