It seems like as soon as we get into the system, all we do is wait We have to wait for our service coordinator to return our calls. It took forever for Self-Determination to be enacted into law and even more time for the Federal government to approve the state plan. People tell me I am patient, but I hate waiting with a passion. It took a year from being selected into the program before I was enrolled into the program. With all this waiting, it is hard to stay motivated, positive, and future focused. It is easy to become frustrated, angry, and discouraged. To stay motivated while I was waiting, I imagined what it would be like when my plan was up and running. The first year I merely ported over my services from traditional to SDP. In later years, when I started to tailor my services to my unique needs at Annual Reviews orIPA meetings, I still had to put up with a lot waiting to do. I knew there was a lot of what I could control. I took my frustration to the SD-LAC and make them known. I can only hope that as SDRC gets more accustomed to SDP wait times will be reduced. We can only wait and see.
