Winter has arrived with its chill, precipitation, and long nights. Some people enjoy this time of year with its festivities, food, music, and lights. I am happy for them but give me the long, warm, sunny days of summer. We, people with disabilities, face a different kind of cold, stigma, exclusion, and poverty. It is hard enough to manage our disabilities, but it really hurts to deal with the social baggage so many of us feel. What matters to me is my job, my apartment, my clothes, my family, and my friends. I don’t want a lot out of life. I am a simple, modest guy. But I also want my life to have purpose and meaning, and to make a difference in others’ lives.
