Imagine

So much of my life, I had to go along with the way things were. I had to wait my turn in line to get what I wanted, but most importantly I had to follow the rules and be compliant. I had to be a good little boy to get what they wanted to give me. If I wanted too much I was simply being overly demanding. With Self-Determination, people actually listen to me.

I find it amazing for people to sit down and hear what I have to say. I am a senior and I have a lot to say about many topics, but especially the goals I want in my life and the services I would like to receive to reach those goals. I bet you feel the same way and you don’t need to be a senior to feel this way. Stop and think, when was the last time someone actually listened to you? How did you feel? What difference did it make?

I dream of a world where everyone would take the time and effort to listen to each other. What a difference it would make! We wouldn’t hide behind cliches or automatic responses, but actually be authentic and genuine. If my SC was doing a good job, I would compliment him, and he would know I actually meant it. The same goes for my family, friends, colleagues, and peers. This is the power of authenticity.

If I said I wanted something on my IPP, I really wanted it and I would work diligently to reach that outcome. I wasn’t just conforming to get along because I was being genuine. Imagine the difference that would make in my life. It goes without saying, one of the great dreams I have is to authentic and genuine. They are the foundations of character and integrity, which mean a great deal to me.

How about you? What do you imagine? What do you dream for?
