Last night, I posed several questions that present themselves to people with disabilities. In the coming days, I will try to answer them. Let me begin with do people with disabilities suffer? I suppose that depends on the individual and the type of disability. Is there pain involved? In my book, pain and suffering go hand in hand. Does your disability prevent you from doing a basic life function or activity? Similarly, does your disability prevent you from doing what you want to do? If you answer yes to any of these questions, I would say you suffer either physically or mentally. This is not all doom and gloom. Suffering does build character, which I regard as a very good thing. I am sure that I wouldn’t have the character and toughness were it not for my disabilities. I am not saying that it is heroic to overcome your disabilities. That goes too far. I am saying that I can enjoy a high quality of life even with my disabilities.
