Freedom

Freedom is 1 of the 5 pillars of Self-Determination. It gives you the right to do things you want to under the law. This may be new for self-advocates who parents, direct care providers, or social workers have always told you what to do and you had no say about it. This right is very liberating letting you expand your horizons and do what you want to do, not having to fit into somebody’s else’s tiny little box. Freedom helps you feel proud of yourself, and you have a more positive self-image. You are free to express yourself on matters important to you to others because you have dignity and self-worth.
