I may be expressing my biases but the greatest pleasures a person can have are fulfilling a task, assignment, or project. Some people might take this for granted and dismiss it as being trivial. I think it is a big deal. I have had disabling conditions from my childhood. More importantly I acquired learned helplessness also from my childhood. My adult life has been a struggle battling the desire to give up or to achieve. I must really force myself to choose the latter and not yield to the former. Many people with disabilities have acquired learned helplessness. Everyone told them growing that they couldn’t do it, and guess what they couldn’t. It’s time to break the chain of helplessness and say to ourselves and others yes, we can.
